Pirate Soup is the online journal of Ventura College. It is a project in progress and is produced by students, faculty, and community partners. Pirate Soup will be published on an ongoing basis to feature campus news, projects presented in a variety of formats including: social media, photo galleries & multimedia. The site connects to Facebook and Twitter pages and a YouTube station.
Amy Jones is the Student Advisor and Project Director and can be emailed at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Pirate Soup seeks to present authentic student voices while striving to establish a creative multi-disciplinary communications media laboratory that encourages new lines of thought, research and consideration, as well as expanded forms of journalistic, creative, and theoretical writing.
Pirate Soup envisions the following goals:
To provide ongoing documentation of campus projects and events
To offer a wide range of opportunity for participation in the journal for students/faculty/community members, with an eye towards not only providing a platform for cultural creatives but to enabling content production by individuals who may not define themselves as a journalist or cultural producer.
To explore interdisciplinary partnerships among Ventura College departments, students, and faculty in hopes of generating extra-credit scenarios and in-class projects
To provide hands-on learning experiences for budding writers, photographers, illustrators, videographers, podcasters, bloggers, recording artists, etc.
To build relationships and partnerships between Ventura College and the community
To offer content integration from local and world media with the thought of enhancing cultural and current event literacy
To engage the unfolding dialog/paradigm concerning online news, cultural, and academic media
Submissions and ideas are welcome. Pirate Soup is an open source and welcomes but does not require membership or an ongoing commitment, so that students with heavy workloads and commitments to other campus clubs, teams, or activities may participate as they are able.
